Agartala, 25th September 2024: Villagers from the Master Para area of Bishramganj arrested a notorious thief on Wednesday afternoon. The thief has been identified as 22-year-old Sukdayal Debbarma was caught red-handed while attempting to steal rubber sheets from the house of Ranjit Debbarma.
“Local residents, along with the homeowner managed to catch Sukdayal in the act,” said a resident of Master Para. “We immediately handed him over to the police of Bidi Ghosh Khawa Shantganj police station”, he added.
Sukdayal, who hails from Pramodnagar in the Jampuijala block is well-known in the area for his criminal activities. “He is a habitual offender and is addicted to drugs. He has been caught multiple times for stealing poultry, goats, and other valuables from various houses and rubber plantations,” a local resident remarked.
Despite the villagers’ efforts, there is growing frustration with the local police. “Theft and robbery are on the rise in the Swatganj police station area,” a concerned resident noted. “The police seem to be asleep at the wheel, with no night patrols and a focus on arresting smuggled vehicles instead.”
The situation has reached a boiling point, with residents accusing the police of negligence. “Last night, a group of thieves broke into a poor farmer’s house and stole his only dairy cow. The police have yet to find the culprits, despite an FIR being filed,” another resident shared.
The residents are calling for increased police presence and more effective measures to curb the rising crime rate. “We need the police to be more proactive and vigilant,” a local leader urged. “Our safety and security depend on it.”
