Agartala, 10th September 2025: Bishalgarh Police Station staff raided an illegal country liquor distillery operated by Balram Bhowmik in the Kalkalia Durga Chowmuhani area this afternoon. Acting on viral footage circulated on social media, police dismantled and destroyed all equipment used in the production of the locally brewed liquor.
Sources informed, Balram Bhowmik had been fermenting rice at his residence to produce country-made liquor for an extended period. He allegedly sold the liquor to local youths, contributing to rising social unrest and family disputes in the community. Backed by influential figures, Bhowmik had reportedly grown so powerful that residents feared protesting against his activities.
The operation was launched under the directive of Bishalgarh OC Bijoy Das, with support from TSR personnel. Despite the swift action, Bhowmik managed to flee before police arrived.
A senior police official confirmed that a case will be registered against Bhowmik. Authorities warned that any future involvement in illegal liquor production or distribution would invite stricter legal consequences.
Locals revealed that Bhowmik, once emboldened by his connections, is now hiding in nearby forested areas, gauging the strength of the police force following the raid. The incident marks a significant step by Bishalgarh police in curbing the spread of illicit liquor and restoring peace in the region.
