Agartala, 1st November 2024: The Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) seized 10 kg of dried cannabis and arrested a drug dealer at Agartala railway station. The seized consignment estimated market value of approximately Rs 1.72 lakh was recovered based on secret intelligence, according to OC Tapas Das of the GRP police station.
“Yesterday, acting on a tip-off, we learned that ganja was being smuggled out of the state through Agartala railway station. Our team promptly launched an operation, during which a suspect, Khudiram Karmakar, a resident of Assam was arrested with 10 kg of dry ganja in his possession,” stated OC Das. The suspect will be presented in court on Friday with authorities seeking police remand for further investigation.
OC Das further highlighted that over the last month, the GRP police station has registered five cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “We have arrested 11 individuals in connection with drug trafficking, and confiscated 63 kg of ganja and 192 bottles of Eskuff Cough Syrup within a month,” he added, highlighting the police’s commitment to curbing the drug menace in the region.\
