Police seize 189 kg of marijuana at Ambassa

Agartala, 19th December 2024:   In a significant success for the anti-drug operation, police officials recovered 189 kg of dried marijuana from a vehicle at the Ambassa Betbagan Naka point in Dhalai district of Tripura. The seized marijuana, found in a secret chamber of the vehicle is estimated to be worth over Rs 25 lakhs. The driver and co-driver, identified as Sameer Rabi Das and Joydeep Chowdhury have been arrested.

A police official stated that they received confidential information about a vehicle transporting marijuana to Dharmanagar. Acting on this tip, the police set up a checkpoint at Ambassa Betbagan Naka point. The vehicle was stopped and searched, leading to the discovery of the concealed marijuana.

“The market value of the seized dried marijuana is estimated to be more than Rs 25 lakhs,” the official said. The police have registered a case against the suspects under the NDPS section and have commenced an investigation into the matter.
