Agartala, 19th July 2025: In a decisive late-night operation, Tripura police intercepted a luxury Bolero vehicle allegedly transporting a large consignment of illegal substances disguised as ‘foreign liquor’. Acting on a tip-off from confidential sources, authorities seized the vehicle bearing registration number AS01EV-9104 from the Sreepur area, uncovering 980 bottles of the illicit chemical-laced brew.
According to police sources, the contraband—marketed under the foreign-sounding brands ‘Lots’ and ‘Paltu’—is known to be a low-grade chemical concoction packaged in broken bottles and sold under the guise of imported liquor. The haul included 180 bottles of ‘Lots’ and 800 bottles of ‘Paltu’, with an estimated black market value ranging between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000.
Officials had intelligence suggesting the vehicle was being used to ferry foreign meth from Dharmanagar to Kailashahar via Anandabazar. Surveillance was heightened, leading to the vehicle being flagged during its passage through the Sreepur area. Despite the successful seizure, both the driver and the primary suspect managed to flee the scene, triggering an ongoing manhunt.
Police believe the substances pose a grave health risk, particularly to youth, and suspect a wider network is involved in the smuggling operations. “There is an active gang behind this trade. We are working to identify and dismantle it,” said Officer-in-Charge Smiti Kanta Bardhan while addressing the press.
The Bolero is believed to have entered Tripura from Assam, raising concerns about security lapses at checkpoints such as Churaibari. The seizure has stirred public concern across the subdivision, with law enforcement agencies intensifying their efforts to track down those responsible.
