Agartala, 20th November 2025:  A police team came under attack from ganja cultivators on Thursday afternoon while carrying out an operation to destroy illegal cannabis plantations in the Melkhabari ADC Village under the Baijalbari Police Station area. One BSF jawan and one forest department staff member were injured in the incident.

According to reports, the administration had long been aware of the widespread cultivation of ganja in the area. Despite receiving repeated intelligence about the growing network of cultivation and trafficking, security personnel were hesitant to enter the area due to fear of resistance from local cultivators.

On Thursday, a joint team comprising police, TSR, BSF, and forest officials entered the village for a destruction drive—reportedly without sufficient security backup. Sensing the officials’ arrival, a large group of local tribal women, allegedly involved in ganja cultivation, united and launched an attack on the security personnel.

The situation escalated quickly, with the attackers resorting to vandalism and damaging police vehicles. During the clash, one BSF jawan and a forest worker sustained injuries.

Despite the resistance, the police team managed to destroy around 8,000 cannabis plants before withdrawing from the area.
