Police to track drug sources and supply chains across Agartala: IG

Date:

Agartala, 13th August 2026 : The Tripura Police administration has announced plans to intensify its crackdown on drug traffickers, with a focus on identifying and arresting the key masterminds behind the illicit trade.

Inspector General of Law and Order Manchak Ipper, accompanied by the West District Superintendent of Police, interacted with individuals detained for drug abuse to gather information about drug sources, supply networks and those involved in the trade.

Speaking to the media later, Ipper said special operations would be conducted to target the “big fish” involved in the drug business. He stressed that action against drug users alone would not resolve the problem and that police efforts must focus on dismantling the supply chain.

The IG said people from different sections of society, including rickshaw pullers and young people, were falling victim to drug addiction, making stern action against dealers imperative.

Police surveillance will also be strengthened in key areas of Agartala, including Battala, Motor Stand, Nagerjala and Radhanagar. Regular raids, surveillance and intelligence gathering will form part of the intensified operation.

Ipper said the drive to make Tripura drug-free would be further strengthened in the coming days, with the police administration determined to trace the sources and bring those operating the illegal narcotics networks to justice.
