Agartala, 29th August 2025: Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel destroyed approximately 80,000 cannabis plants during a late-night raid that lasted until dawn of today. The operation was led by Bishramganj Police Station OC Ajit Debbarma, targeted dense forest areas in Hirapur and Ashok Colony.
Sub-Inspector Shubhankar Debbarma said that the raid was launched around 1:30 AM following a tip-off received late last night. Multiple teams, including female officers and TSR units, conducted coordinated raids across eight forested sites, uprooting both mature and immature cannabis plants. The estimated market value of the destroyed crop is between Rs 30-35 lakh.
This marks the first cannabis eradication drive of the year under the new OC’s leadership, signaling a renewed crackdown on widespread cultivation in the Sepahijala district. Local residents, alarmed by the scale and intensity of the operation, expressed hope that continued enforcement would significantly curb illegal farming in the region.
Police have confirmed that similar operations will continue in the coming days.
