Agartala, 18th September 2024: The 4th Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo, held from September 16 to 18, 2024, in Gujarat, began with a powerful Vedic chant resonating through the venue: “Oh jabakusumsankasang kashyapeyong mahadyutim. Dhantaring sarvapapaghnang pranatohsmi divakaram,” translating to, “I bow down to Kashyapaputra, the destroyer of all sins, red like a jababushpa, with great light that destroys darkness.” The chant symbolized the power of solar energy as the event’s focus centered on harnessing the sun’s potential to drive the world forward.
At the event, Tripura’s Power Minister, Ratanlal Nath, made a strong pitch to global investors, urging them to invest in renewable energy projects in Tripura. He emphasized the state’s commitment to green energy, highlighting that Tripura has already set a target of producing 815 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy by 2030.
“As traditional sources of energy like coal and gas deplete, we must embrace solar energy to dispel the looming fear of energy shortages,” said Nath. He noted that India aims to generate 500 gigawatts (GW) of solar power by 2030, with Tripura playing its part by setting ambitious goals in solar, hydro, and bioenergy.
Specifically, the state plans to generate 396 MW of solar power, 400 MW through hydro pump storage, 15 MW from hydro sources, and 2 MW through bioenergy. To achieve these targets, the government has outlined a total investment of ₹13,000 crore. Nath also shared that Tripura had earned national recognition, receiving the third prize for solar energy production and management in the northeastern region at this year’s ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the international audience, Nath stated, “Tripura offers a robust industrial policy, easy access to land, and an investor-friendly environment. We are ready to partner with global investors to make Tripura a leader in renewable energy.” He added that the state had already formulated its Energy Vision 2030 and is in the final stages of drafting its Renewable Energy Policy.
The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) was also honored at the event for its outstanding contribution to renewable energy. Accompanying Minister Nath at the summit were TREDA Director General Mahananda Debbarma and Joint Director Debabrata Shukla Das.
