Agartala, 15th December 2025:   Nearly 200 families in Takmacherra village and Takmacherra bazar area under South Tripura’s Santirbazar subdivision have been enduring a complete power outage for over one and a half months due to a malfunctioning electricity transformer.

Local residents allege that the prolonged power cut has triggered a severe drinking water crisis, as electric motor-driven water supply systems have come to a halt. Villagers are now forced to travel long distances to fetch water, compounding their daily hardships.

The blackout has also disrupted essential services. Anganwadi Kendras, schools and rice mills in the area have been forced to shut down, severely affecting children’s education and local livelihoods.

Despite repeated complaints lodged with the Santirbazar Power department, locals claim that no effective action has been taken to restore power. The continued inaction has fueled growing frustration and anger among residents toward the authorities.

The affected families are now demanding immediate repair or replacement of the faulty transformer to restore electricity. They have warned that if the issue is not resolved promptly, they may be compelled to launch a protest movement.
