Agartala, July 10, 2023: Pradesh Mahila Congress on Monday staged a sit-in-demonstration against the flourishing trade of narcotic substances and uprising crimes against women on the support of alleged BJP leaders throughout the state.

Speaking to media personnel at Orient Chowmuhani here on Monday morning, Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha said “The call of the state government and Chief Minister on making Tripura a ‘Nesha Mukta’ state has become a big mistake in implementation. The mentality of using drugs has increased tremendously among people of different ages, especially youths starting of teenage. With the support of ruling BJP leaders, drug smugglers are flourishing their business throughout the state and accordingly, it has turned into a drug-paradise.

“TPCC, as an opposition party and force, is staging a mass sit-in-demonstration to awake the state government as the consumption of drugs are spoiling the lives of youths and destroying their families. Similarly, the party is also urging the common people to apprehend those smugglers and traders of drugs. We believe that people of every section have to come forward and stage protest against flourishing of drugs trade throughout the state”, he added.

Saha said “Apart from this, the injustice happening to the women of this state. After the formation of BJP-led government in Tripura, BJP-sponsored anti-social elements had accelerated the crime against women across the state. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Tripura stands at second position in crime against women.”

“With addiction being a paradise, it appears that most of the cases are linked to violence against women, ranging from ruling party patrons or active leadership of the ruling party.”

“The civil and police administration had to keep silent as the law violators are hailing from or supported by the ruling BJP leaders in the state. Accordingly, these law violators are escaping from the eyes of the law. The home department’s role is too weak and that is why, this trend is gaining day by day. For all these, Mahila Congress had stepped on the road”, PCC President told reporters.
