Agartala, 27th July 2025: Tipra Motha Party chief and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Sunday called on the state government to urgently set up a monitoring committee to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants evicted from neighbouring Assam.
Addressing the media, Pradyot revealed that he had recently discussed the issue with the Election Commission of India (ECI), where he reiterated his party’s firm stance against allowing illegal settlers to enter or remain in Tripura.
“We will not allow outsiders who have entered illegally to become part of Tripura’s electoral roll or demographic setup,” he said.
He proposed forming monitoring committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), comprising members from various political parties. These committees, he said, would travel to interior villages to gather information on any recent illegal entries and monitor the border areas vigilantly.
Drawing comparisons with neighbouring northeastern states, Pradyot said, “Assam has launched eviction drives under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Similar mechanisms have been adopted in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. Tripura, however, has yet to act.”
He warned that the absence of such a mechanism in Tripura could lead to an unchecked inflow of illegal migrants once evicted from Assam. “Tripura shares a porous border with Assam. Without a robust framework, we risk becoming a dumping ground for these migrants,” he cautioned.
Slamming vote-bank politics, Pradyot said, “If we continue to compromise for electoral gains, it will come at the cost of our indigenous identity and land. This is not about religion or ethnicity—it’s about safeguarding our future.”
He urged the state administration to act swiftly and decisively, saying, “This is about the survival of our people. We must ensure not a single illegal immigrant evicted from Assam finds refuge in Tripura.”
