Agartala, 21st December 2025: Tripura royal scion and Tipra Motha Party founder, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, on Sunday called on the Government of India to adopt a firm stance to protect Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, including measures such as restricting the entry of Bangladeshi nationals and suspending visa services.
Speaking at a press conference, Pradyot expressed deep concern over what he described as systematic targeting and killings of Hindu Bengalis in Bangladesh. He also criticized certain leaders in Bangladesh for making provocative statements, including calls to shut down the Indian embassy and claims over the Northeast region.
“It is concerning that while some leaders speak loudly about patriotism, they remain silent on the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Tipra Motha continues to raise its voice against these atrocities, even as our sportspeople face disadvantages while Bangladeshi players participate freely in the IPL,” he said, highlighting what he called a double standard.
Pradyot emphasized that India must protect Hindu minorities both in Bangladesh and in the Northeast. “If Tipra Motha is given the opportunity, we will send the Bangladeshi Assistant High Commissioner back to Dhaka within 20 minutes. Our communities in Bangladesh face attacks, temples and churches are being destroyed, and forced conversions are taking place. Yet, we continue to provide them VIP treatment. India must take a firm stand, including halting visa services,” he said.
Addressing Tipra Motha’s alliance with the BJP, Pradyot clarified that the party opposes violence. “No senior leader from our party has made derogatory remarks against any political party. While rumors about Tipra Motha’s future circulate, our focus remains on core issues like land rights, language, and identity,” he said.
He reaffirmed the party’s position on cultural and linguistic matters, insisting that Kokborok should be written in Roman script and opposing the mandatory use of Bengali in examinations. “We are not against the Bengali language; we simply oppose its forced imposition,” he stated.
Pradyot also urged both the Tripura government and the central government to develop a comprehensive long-term policy for the Northeast to ensure the protection and rights of future generations.
