Pulse Polio Campaign Kicks Off in Tripura, Aiming to Vaccinate Over 3 Lakh Children

Agartala, 21st December 2025 :   National Vaccination Day was observed across the country today. In Tripura, the Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) program was held statewide. The state-level event was inaugurated at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ Higher Secondary School by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

Although India has been polio-free for the past 14 years, children in several neighboring countries are still affected by the polio virus. Recent outbreaks in neighboring countries could potentially impact India again. To maintain the country’s polio-free status, the Pulse Polio campaign is being conducted this year as well. Every child under five years of age is targeted to receive two drops of the polio vaccine. These two doses can protect children from the risk of paralysis in the future.

Special vaccination camps have been organized across the state at temporary vaccination centers, schools, sub-health centers, Anganwadi centers, and hospitals. The Health Department of Tripura has made extensive preparations to ensure the success of this year’s Pulse Polio campaign. The campaign aims to administer polio doses to 340,874 children aged 0 to 5 years across the state. A total of 13,636 vaccinators will operate at 3,409 vaccination booths, with 682 supervisors overseeing the program.

For children who miss their dose on December 21, health workers and ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers will provide the vaccine door-to-door on December 22 and 23, 2025. The Health Department is taking special measures to ensure every area of the state is included in the vaccination drive and to raise public awareness. The goal is to make sure no child is left out, with door-to-door campaigns continuing until full coverage is achieved.

The event was also attended by Ravail Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the Department of Education; Saju Wahid A, Mission Director of the National Health Mission; Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura; Dr. Debashi Debbarma, Director of Health Rights; and Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention, among others.
