Agartala, 30th January 2025:  The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), currently in alliance with the BJP in Tripura and governing the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), has urged the Centre to provide direct financial assistance to the district council.

After meeting with the 16th Finance Commission, chaired by Dr. Arvind Panagariya, TMP founder and Member of the District Council, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, highlighted the insufficient allocation of funds to the council.

“We held discussions with the 16th Finance Commission today, emphasizing the need for direct funding to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) under Article 280 of the Indian Constitution. Despite nearly 68% of Tripura falling under TTAADC, we receive only about 1.7% of the state budget. This issue was raised during our meeting, and we now await the commission’s report to the Government of India,” Pradyot said.

The demand for direct funding has been a long-standing concern for the autonomous council, which plays a crucial role in the administration and development of tribal areas in the state.
