Pradyot Questions IPL, BCCI over Rs 9.20 Crore Deal for Bangladeshi Cricketer

Agartala, 20th December 2025 : Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, royal scion of Tripura and founder of the Tipra Motha Party, today criticized the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the purchase of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 9.20 crore. Debbarma alleged that the move highlights the continued neglect of talented cricketers from India’s North East.

In a strongly worded statement, he questioned why Indian players such as Manisankar Murasingh of Tripura are consistently overlooked, while foreign players are bought at such high prices.

“When a Bangladeshi cricketer is valued at Rs 9.20 crore while our own talented North East players are ignored, we must ask ourselves—are we compromising too much?” Debbarma said.

He also raised concerns about recent developments in Bangladesh, citing attacks on Hindu minorities and protests targeting India. “There have been threats outside our embassy, attacks on minorities, and calls to divide the North East. Are we comfortable paying crores to citizens of that country under such circumstances?” he questioned.

Debbarma further criticized what he described as India’s inconsistent stance toward neighboring countries. “India boycotts Pakistan on grounds of national sentiment and security but continues normal business with Bangladesh. What is the logic here? Are business interests being prioritized over national security and self-respect?”

Highlighting Tipra Motha’s role in raising these issues, he asked why other political voices have remained silent. “Aren’t we Indians first? Why are others quiet on this matter?” he said.

Calling on the IPL and BCCI to reflect on their decisions, Debbarma urged them to reconsider their priorities. “BCCI is the richest cricket body in the world. They need to seriously consider—what comes first, national respect and security, or merely business?”
