Agartala, 25th July 2025: Tipra Motha Party chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Friday called on the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to urgently set up a monitoring committee to curb the influx of illegal immigrants into the autonomous district council areas.
Citing the risk of cross-border and inter-state infiltration, particularly following recent eviction drives in Assam, Pradyot warned of serious demographic consequences if the issue is not addressed promptly.
“I have requested the TTAADC to form an all-party monitoring committee that will operate beyond political lines. Its sole objective must be to safeguard the rights and identity of the indigenous population,” he told reporters.
He stressed that unchecked migration could pose a serious threat to the demographic balance and cultural fabric of Tripura’s tribal areas.Earlier on July 23, a nine-member Tipra Motha delegation led by Pradyot met Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in New Delhi, seeking a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Tripura’s electoral rolls.
In a memorandum submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the delegation demanded the identification, deletion, and deportation of illegal immigrants listed in the state’s voter rolls.
“Just as Bihar is carrying out SIR, we told the ECI that Tripura must do the same. Illegal migration cannot be tolerated in Tripura or anywhere else in the Northeast,” Pradyot said following the meeting.
