Agartala, 8th January 2025 : The Gomati district hosted a noteworthy convention for ASHA workers led by the Chief Medical Officer and organized under the National Health Mission’s initiative. Finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy inaugurated the event.
During his inaugural address, Singha Roy praised the pivotal role ASHA workers play in the healthcare system. “ASHA workers are playing a special role. Significant progress is being achieved in areas such as cancer treatments and kidney transplants, with a strong focus on enhancing health services. More doctors will be recruited soon,” he said.
The minister lauded ASHA workers’ bravery during the Covid-19 pandemic and acknowledged their grassroots efforts during the August floods. “ASHA workers are working tirelessly in all areas, including maternal and child health, malaria, and TB eradication. “Their social responsibility is commendable,” he added.
Despite the state’s limited resources, Minister Roy assured attendees that the state government remains dedicated to the welfare and development of ASHA workers. “The state government is sensitive to the needs of ASHA workers and is committed to supporting their growth. We are also providing 100 percent incentives alongside the health mission,” he affirmed.
The convention saw the recognition of eight ASHA workers and ASHA facilitators for their exemplary contributions. Special awards were given to Parijat Jamatia and Rubina Begum for their roles during the floods.
MLA Rampada Jamatia was present at the event and he also commended the ASHA workers’ efforts. The convention was attended by MLAs Abhishek Debroy, Ranjit Das and Jitendra Majumdar, along with District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shital Chandra Majumdar and others.
