Agartala, 8th July 2026: The Teachers’ Forum of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has clarified that doctors and faculty members of AGMC and GBP Hospital will continue to be allowed to engage in optional private practice until the Tripura Government issues an official notification enforcing any prohibition.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the AGMC Teachers’ Forum held on July 6 under the chairmanship of the Forum’s President. Members discussed reports regarding the government’s proposed move to ban private practice by doctors and faculty attached to AGMC and GBP Hospital.
In a statement released after the meeting, the Forum noted that, as far as it was aware, no formal government order or notification had been issued to implement the proposed restriction. The Forum stated that, in the absence of any official directive, the existing policy allowing optional private practice would remain in effect to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services and public welfare.
It also urged all members to continue carrying out their professional duties with sincerity, discipline, and full compliance with the prevailing government rules and regulations.
The clarification comes amid ongoing discussions over the proposed ban on private practice by government doctors and medical college faculty in Tripura. The Forum reiterated that any change to the current policy can only be implemented after the competent authority issues a formal government order.
