Agartala, 4th October 2025 : Family members of Ashish Das and his brother, victims of a brutal double murder in Surma, staged a road blockade on Saturday afternoon at the Ambassa–Dahulia stretch of the Ambassa–Kamalpur road. The protest was sparked by alleged police inaction and lack of cooperation from the Dhalai District Superintendent of Police, whom the family had approached seeking justice.
Despite the passage of considerable time since the incident, the family claims that the prime accused remains at large. They allege that even though the names of the suspects are well-known, the administration has shown silence and negligence in the investigation. Ashish Das’s mother, visibly distraught, stated, “My two sons were murdered in cold blood. We want justice. The police know who did it, yet they are doing nothing. Instead, our home is being attacked.”
Local residents who joined the blockade expressed frustration over what they described as police apathy, saying that the accused continue to roam freely. They demanded immediate arrests and security for the bereaved family.
Following reports of the protest, police and administrative officials arrived at the scene and held discussions with the family. However, the family warned that if concrete action is not taken within a specified timeframe, they will escalate their agitation.
