Agartala, 22nd December 2025: The Kalachara Bazaar area under Dharmanagar sub-division in North Tripura witnessed a massive protest rally on Sunday evening, as public anger erupted against the growing incidents of religious extremism, attacks on the media, and alleged atrocities against common people in neighboring Bangladesh.
The protest march was led by the Kalachhara Eidgah Committee, expressing strong outrage over the brutal killing of a minority youth, Dipu Das, in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, who was reportedly beaten to death and set on fire. Protesters condemned the incident and termed it a grim reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
During the rally, sharp criticism was directed at Bangladesh’s current interim Yunus government. Speakers alleged that extremist fundamentalist groups are deliberately spreading unrest across Bangladesh and systematically targeting religious minorities as well as voices of free thought.
Particular concern was raised over attacks on leading Bangladeshi media houses such as Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, which the speakers described as blatant attempts to silence democratic voices. The vandalism of the office of Chhayanaut, the country’s renowned cultural organization founded in 1961, and repeated assaults on Hindu minorities were also strongly condemned.
The protesters further denounced the recent attack on the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh and the raising of anti-India slogans.
Leaders at the rally emphasized that extremist forces are attempting to undermine the deep cultural, historical, and emotional ties between India and Bangladesh that were forged during the 1971 Liberation War.
The Kalachhara Eidgah Committee demanded a fair, impartial, and swift investigation into all such incidents by the Bangladesh interim government.
They also called for exemplary punishment of the culprits and effective measures to ensure the safety of religious minorities and journalists.
Addressing the gathering, speakers stressed that combating such destructive forces requires a firm and proactive role from governments. They urged all peace-loving and conscientious citizens to unite in defense of peace, communal harmony, and democratic values.
Prominent participants in the protest included members of the Kalachhara Eidgah Committee such as Abdul Suban, Zainal Uddin, Maulana Abdul Jabbar, along with many socially conscious individuals from minority communities.
