Agartala, 25th October 2024 :  Residents of Janta Teicha ADC Village in Karbook took to the streets on Friday morning, blocking the road to demand repairs to the dilapidated roads in their area. Protesters, frustrated by years of unfulfilled promises, expressed their discontent with the administration’s inaction.

“We are not being treated like humans. Why is the administration using us like this?” exclaimed one protester. The 7 km road from Korbuk to Sat Chandrapara via Bhagwan Tila has been in poor condition since 2015, affecting around twelve villages and approximately 1,200 families.

Since 2018, the PWD department, Karbook block BDO and sub-division officials have made repeated promises to rehabilitate the road, but without any action. “They keep saying today, tomorrow, or the day after. Our patience has finally broken,” another protester remarked.

The protesters demanded a written notice from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Block BDO, and PWD Officer specifying when the road repair work would start and finish. The blockade lasted from 6 am to around 10:30 am, causing significant disruption, especially for traders attending the weekly haat market.

Police initially failed to convince the crowd to lift the blockade. However, the engineer from the works department later arrived and provided a written assurance that the road would be repaired within a month. Following this, the angry crowd dispersed.
