Agartaka, 27th August 2024: Members of the Tripura Students’ Union (TSU) gathered in front of the Janjati Kalyan department at Gorkhabasti here and staged a protest led by TSU leadership and supported by workers on Tuesday, aimed to draw attention to the urgent need for scholarships for Janjati students.
According to the state secretary of TSU, a total of 35,665 individuals have submitted applications for post-matric scholarships. Additionally, 12,299 students have applied for pre-matric scholarships. However, the disheartening reality is that only 2,826 pre-matric students have received scholarships so far. Approximately 9,000 students remain without the much-needed financial support.
In contrast, 14,000 students have been granted post-matric scholarships. These scholarships play a crucial role in enabling national students to pursue higher education. With the B.Ed. exams scheduled for September, students are feeling the pressure from their colleges.
The protesters voiced their demands clearly: scholarships must be disbursed to deserving students by September 15. Their unwavering commitment to the cause underscores the critical importance of educational support for Janjati communities in Tripura.
