Agartala, July 15, 2023: Sadar subdivisional administration’s enforcement team, in collaboration with the Legal Metrology team, conducted a raid today at GB Bazar here. The primary objective of the operation was to scrutinize the quality and pricing of grocery items in several hotels and restaurants within the area.
During the inspection, a number of violations were exhumed at Nirmala Stores, owned by Manoranjan Debnath. Notably, expired spices were found in stock, and no display price board was reportedly found in his shop. Additionally, Debnath stands accused of engaging in the sale of overpriced commodities to ranks and files moreover he failed to provide the necessary Food Staff license upon request.
Adjacent to his shop Basana Bhandar owned by Sanjay Deb, also came under scrutiny during the raid. Similar irregularities were identified in his shop too, as the owner was unable to furnish the necessary documentation for his shop. As a consequence of these violations, both the stores have been temporarily sealed, citing contraventions of the Consumer Rights Act. Furthermore, they are now required to present themselves before the Sadar Divisional Magistrate to provide a justifiable cause for their actions.
Soon, notices will be issued for them, and lawful action will be taken against those vendors. The raid, which spanned the duration of an entire day, culminated in the sealing of a total of three shops as a direct outcome of the operation. And they have also assured that similar raids will be conducted as part of their ongoing commitment to ensuring compliance with regulations and safeguarding consumer rights.
