Rain damages 25 houses, 12 in relief camps in Tripura

Agartala, 2nd August 2024:  Heavy rainfall in Tripura on Wednesday has caused significant damage, with 25 houses affected and 12 people currently residing in relief camps. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, one house in Teliamura, Khowai district, was completely destroyed, while three others sustained partial damage. In Karbook, Gomati district, three landslides were reported in Chelagang Mahadev Para, Bairagi Dukan Mantri Das Para, and Ramchandra, leading to the partial damage of six houses and severe damage to 16 others.

Additionally, landslides and fallen trees were observed in Belonia, Sabroom, and Santibazar sub-divisions. The Public Works Department (PWD), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire Services, and emergency officials are actively clearing these areas.

Major rivers in Tripura, including Howrah, Khowai, and Gomati, are currently below flood levels. However, the Muhuri river in the South District has exceeded danger levels, while the Feni river has only surpassed expected levels.

A warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning across all districts of Tripura, and heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas of Khowai, Dhalai, Sepahijala, and West Districts. South and Gomati Districts are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
