Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s 250th birth anniversary celebrated

Agartala, August 31, 2022: With the financial support of Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation and with the initiative of the Bir Chandra State Central Library, a colourful procession by the girl students of four schools marched city roads and celebrated the 250th birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters here, Education minister Ratanlal Nath said “In a bid to make people aware about the superstitions prevailing in our society, the birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, who fought against those illogical beliefs has been celebrated today.”

“The 250th birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy is being celebrated throughout the state along with the entire country on Wednesday. On this auspicious day, to give a complete picture, Roy has done everything for our society, especially agitated against social superstitions such as sati-immolation, polygamy, dowry for girls and child immersion in the Ganga river, etc.,” he added.

Nath said “Today’s rally main theme is women empowerment. The state government has decided 33 percent reservation of women in government jobs. We have initiated various schemes and projects for the development and welfare of girls in our society. On this day, this rally has been organized to make people aware.”
