Agartala, December 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ on Tuesday to commemorate the sacrifice of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, who were killed by the Mughals for refusing to convert to Islam.

BJP state President Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Municipal Corporation’s Mayor Dipak Majumder, former MLAs Dilip Das and Mimi Majumder, and other party leaders and workers participated in a rally that started from Chanmari School and ended at Army Gurudwara in Chanmari.

Bhattacharya said that the central government has decided to celebrate 26th December as ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ to pay tribute to the young martyrs, also known as Sahebzadara, who showed immense bravery and valour in the face of tyranny.

He said that Guru Gobind Singh, who became the Sikh leader at the age of nine after the execution of his father Guru Teg Bahadur, was a warrior, poet and philosopher who inspired millions of Sikhs to fight for their faith and freedom.

He said that the BJP respects all religions and cultures and is committed to protect the rights and dignity of every citizen.

‘Veer Baal Diwas’ is being celebrated across the country as per the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9 this year.
