Rakhi is not just a festival but a call for action: Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu

Agartala, 19th August 2024:  Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Monday expressed a deep concern on the safety of women in the society and appealed to men to protect women to live without any kind of fear of violence and discrimination. He remarked that Rakhi is not just a festival but a call for action.

Addressing a gathering at a program, titled, ‘Rakhi for Soldiers’ held at Raj Bhavan, Agartala, the Governor expressed wishes on the occasion of Rakha Bandhan, terming this festival symbolises immense love between brother and sister. He also expressed displeasure on the news of gruesome attacks, harassment and discrimination against women becoming too common in the contemporary time.

On the occasion the Governor said atrocities against women have posed a threat to the very fabric of the society. The Governor said, Rakhi is not just a festival but a call for action. He said the festival reminds the society that brothers have a responsibility to protect and empower sisters. The Governor called upon the people to create a society where women can live without fear, thrive, and reach their full potential.

Nallu further called upon the society to treat women with dignity and respect and to come forward to create an atmosphere where women get equal opportunities and a place to live without fear of violence and discrimination.

The ‘Rakhi for Soldier’ program was organised by the Samskruti Foundation. In the program,eminent Rabindra Sangeet singer Tithi Debbarman first tied a Rakhi on the wrist of the Governor. ‘Sisters’ from Prajapita Brahmakunaris and women and girl students from Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Samskruti Foundation, Bhavan’s College and Tripureshwari Vidyamandir also tied Rakhis on the wrist of the Governor. Later all of the women members tied Rakhis on the wrist of a group of CRPF personnel.
