Agartala, 22nd November 2024:  Despite claims of progress and good governance by the BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha coalition government, the reality on the ground tells a different story. At Rangmala Class XII School in Charilam block, primary division students are forced to eat their mid-day meals on the balcony exposed to the elements and accompanied by stray dogs and roosters. This scene was observed on Friday.

“For a long time, our children have been eating their mid-day meals outside the classroom. We lack a proper dining room, so they have to sit outside even in the sun. When it rains, they eat inside the classroom. We’ve informed the concerned department multiple times, but no action has been taken,” said Paniram Debbarma, the school’s headmaster.

The school has four teachers and 54 students. “We desperately need a dining room for these children,” Debbarma emphasized.

Surprisingly, the local MLA has not intervened to help the 54 students. “The MLA and other public representatives are aware of this situation. They could take immediate action if they wanted to. It’s unfortunate that students are forced to eat in such unhealthy conditions,” a local resident remarked.

In a state where the development infrastructure for ministers and MLAs is constantly improving, the plight of these students highlights a stark contrast. “The people can’t even imagine the state of the general mid-day meal service,” another resident added.
