Agartala, 27th November 2024: In a bid to promote sustainable energy solutions, the government has introduced the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana focusing on utilizing solar energy for domestic electrical work. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath held a crucial meeting with corporators of the Agartala Municipal Corporation here on Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the scheme.
The primary goal of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana is to encourage Gram Panchayats, Municipal Corporation and Municipal Councils to embrace solar energy. Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “Coal and gas reserves underground will eventually deplete, but solar energy is an inexhaustible resource. This scheme aims to make households self-reliant in their energy needs.”
Nath was accompanied by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, AMC Commissioner Sailesh Kumar Yadav, corporators and other officials. Minister Nath stressed the importance of understanding the scheme among corporators. “We need to prepare for a future where traditional energy sources like coal and gas are exhausted. Unlike coastal regions, Tripura doesn’t have sufficient wind for energy generation, making solar energy a vital alternative,” he explained.
He also introduced the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which offers subsidies to middle-class families for adopting solar technology. “This scheme provides a subsidy to make solar energy accessible for middle-class families, ensuring that everyone can benefit from clean and sustainable energy solutions,” Nath highlighted.
The Minister shared the broader vision of the government, aligning with the goals of ‘Atmanirbhar Tripura’ and ‘Doubling farmer’s income’. “By adopting new technologies like solar energy, we can boost productivity and create employment opportunities,” he added.
Mayor Dipak Majumdar praised the initiative, saying, “This scheme is a significant step towards ensuring energy security and sustainability in Tripura. It will help reduce our dependence on conventional energy sources and promote environmental conservation.”
The meeting concluded with a detailed discussion on the implementation strategies and the benefits that residents can expect from the scheme. The government’s push towards solar energy marks a crucial shift in Tripura’s energy policy, aiming to build a greener and more self-sufficient future for its citizens.
