Ratan Lal Nath inaugurates Orange festival at Killa; Celebrates farmers’ success

Agartala, 24th November 2023:    The state-level orange festival was held at Killa on Friday, showcasing the achievements of the local farmers who have been cultivating the cash crop with the support of the government. The festival was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who praised the farmers for their efforts and assured them of continued assistance from the state and central governments.

The festival, which was organized by the Agriculture Department at Killa in Udaipur, attracted a large number of visitors who enjoyed the sight and taste of the fresh oranges displayed in around 40 stalls. The speakers at the inaugural ceremony highlighted the history and potential of orange cultivation in the region, which has been producing good yields for many years.

The minister said that the current state government has helped 24 orange farmers this year by providing them with a grant of Rs. 20,000 each, with the aim of making them self-reliant and boosting the rural economy. He also mentioned that the Prime Minister of the country and the Chief Minister of the state have been working to improve the living conditions of the people of Tripura by providing them with various schemes and benefits.

He cited the examples of the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme, which has given houses to 63,000 people in the villages and has a target of 30,000 people in the cities, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide piped water supply to every household, of which 71.76 percent of the work has been completed in the state.

He said that the government is on the side of the people who want to make themselves self-reliant by engaging in productive activities like orange cultivation, and urged the farmers to take advantage of the various schemes and programs available to them.

The festival also witnessed the presence of MLA Abhishek Debroy, MLA Rampada Jamatia, former MDC Jai Kishore Jamatia and officials from various departments, who appreciated the initiative and congratulated the farmers for their success. The orange festival created a huge response in the area and showcased the potential of the horticulture sector in the state.
