Agartala, 23rd March 2026: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday launched a strong attack on the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), accusing the party of widespread illegal occupation of government land during its tenure in Tripura. He also demanded strict action, including the demolition of allegedly unauthorized party offices.
The remarks were made on the final day of the Budget Session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, following a question raised by CPI(M) MLA Shyamal Chakraborty regarding government land encroachment in Boxanagar, located in Sepahijala district.
Responding to the query, Nath stated that the government has already initiated action in the matter, including intervention by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. “The government is committed to acting against all forms of illegal occupation,” he said.
Nath alleged that during the CPI(M)’s rule, more than 100 kani of government land was unlawfully occupied, with rubber plantations set up on such land. He further accused the previous administration of enabling illegal encroachments across the state.
“From South to North Tripura, both government and private lands were forcefully occupied. Such actions should be condemned, and those responsible must reflect on their conduct,” Nath remarked. He also emphasized that the current government has taken steps against illegal activities and warned that all unauthorized party offices would face demolition.
