Agartala, 16th March 2025: Gomati District witnessed a significant step towards agricultural development today as the foundation stone for the Atharobhola Rural Agricultural Market was unveiled. The event took place at the grounds adjacent to the market also saw the distribution of modern agricultural machinery to local farmers. The program was graced by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Purna Chandra Jamatia, Vice-Chairman of Killa BC Krishna Kanta Jamatia, MLA Rampada Jamatia and Sabhadipati of Gomati Zilla Parishad Debal Debroy among others.
Addressing the gathering, Nath emphasized the government’s commitment to uplifting the rural and hilly communities. “Our primary goal is to enhance the quality of life for people in these areas. To achieve this, we are focusing on improving the financial conditions of our farmers,” he stated.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, he added, “We are providing farmers with modern agricultural machinery and training them in advanced cultivation techniques. Our researchers are working tirelessly to reduce crop production time and encourage the cultivation of high-yield vegetables and crops.”
The minister also revealed ambitious plans for the future, announcing, “In the seven years of our current government, we are working towards establishing 144 new agricultural markets.”
The event was not just about laying the foundation stone. Farmers were felicitated and provided with essential tools such as tillers and spray machines. The gesture was aimed at equipping them with resources to enhance productivity and efficiency in their agricultural practices.
Concluding the ceremony, Minister Nath accompanied by other officials toured the nearby paddy, corn and wheat fields. These fields, cultivated using the innovative SRI method, showcased the potential of modern agricultural techniques in boosting crop yields.
