Agartala, 4th August 2025: Frustrated by years of neglect, residents of Ward No. 4 in Doluchhara staged a road blockade on the Kailashahar–Dharmanagar National Highway at this noon demanding immediate repairs to local roads and access to clean drinking water.
The protest drew around 70 families from the area who alleged that the internal village roads have remained broken for an extended period, with no response from local authorities despite repeated appeals to the panchayat, Block Development Officer and the district administration.
Particular ire was directed toward the local ward member, Neharun Begum, whom residents accused of remaining absent during times of distress and failing to represent their needs.
Protesters also claimed that the road conditions were so poor that vehicles supplying drinking water from the Health and Public Health Engineering Departments could not enter the village, cutting off a vital public service.
Upon receiving news of the blockade, DCM Mati Ranjan Debbarma and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar arrived promptly at the site along with other officials. After speaking with demonstrators, they assured swift administrative action.
“The relevant department has already been notified about the road restoration. Necessary measures will be initiated shortly,” said Debbarma.
Following these assurances, residents lifted the blockade but warned that if there is no tangible progress, they will launch a larger agitation in the coming days.
