Agartala, 26th August 2025: Residents of Kathalia Bari in Kailashnagar ADC Village staged a road blockade today protesting the dilapidated condition of a key stretch connecting Hrishyamukh to Satchand in the Sabroom subdivision. The road spanning approximately 12 kilometers has remained largely neglected for over a decade with more than 7 kilometers in severe disrepair.
Despite being blacktopped in the past, the surface has eroded completely, worsened by the frequent movement of heavy ONGC vehicles. Locals say the road has become nearly impassable, affecting daily commutes and emergency access.
While the current government has initiated reconstruction efforts, only about 5 kilometers have been repaired so far. The remaining 2.5 kilometers continue to pose serious challenges, prompting residents to block the road in demand for swift action.
Police arrived at the scene, but no administrative officials were present during the hours-long protest. However, the Public Works Department (PWD) began repair work on the damaged stretch the same day.
Speaking to reporters, Junior Engineer Kamal Kanti Sen confirmed that the roadwork had commenced and assured that the route would be made travel-ready within three to four days. Following the announcement, residents lifted the blockade, expressing cautious optimism.
Local residents reiterated their demand for a fully functional and durable road, emphasizing that connectivity is essential for their safety and livelihood.
