Agartala, 11th June 2025 : Frustrated by persistent electricity outages, residents of Ishan Chandra Nagar in Belonia took to the streets on Wednesday afternoon, staging a protest on the Belonia-Rajnagar main road. The demonstration, fueled by weeks of unreliable power supply, has disrupted traffic and left passengers stranded.
According to local accounts, the area has been suffering from inconsistent electricity service for an extended period. “Power comes for a short time at night, only to go out again,” said a protester, who requested anonymity. “We have been calling the electricity department repeatedly, but nothing has changed. Our daily lives are in turmoil—water supply is affected, businesses are struggling, and household activities are disrupted.”
The protest saw a sizable turnout, with residents demanding immediate intervention. “We cannot continue living like this,” exclaimed another protester. “Every essential service depends on electricity, and yet our pleas have been ignored.”
The demonstration caused a complete blockade of the Belonia-Rajnagar road, leading to a standstill in vehicular movement. Passengers and commuters, caught unaware, faced significant inconvenience. “I have been stuck here for over an hour,” lamented a local traveler. “While I understand the people’s frustration, authorities must act swiftly to resolve this issue.”
Upon receiving reports of the blockade, officials from the electricity department, accompanied by police personnel, rushed to the site to mediate the situation. Authorities engaged with protesters, assuring them that efforts would be made to rectify the power crisis. “We acknowledge the hardship faced by residents,” an official stated. “Immediate steps are being taken to address the issue and restore uninterrupted electricity service.”
Despite assurances, many protesters remained skeptical, emphasizing the need for concrete action rather than verbal commitments. “We have heard promises before. We will continue our protest until we see actual results,” one resident remarked.
The ongoing electricity crisis in Belonia has raised concerns about infrastructure reliability and administrative response.
