Agartala, 29th January 2026: Residents of Ward No. 7 under Bhagwan Nagar Gram Panchayat in Gournagar block are reeling under a severe drinking water shortage that has persisted for over a month. Families in the locality say they have been deprived of adequate potable water despite repeated appeals to authorities.
Locals allege that during ongoing drain excavation work, the water supply pipeline was damaged, leading to a complete halt in regular supply. Although the concerned department occasionally sends water tankers, residents complain that the quantity is far below the area’s demand.
According to residents, water was supposed to be supplied twice daily through tankers. However, in reality, tankers arrive only once every three to four days, forcing families to queue up with buckets and pitchers to collect limited amounts. Nearly 20 households have been living in the area for years, but the crisis has made daily life increasingly difficult.
Today, frustrated residents staged a protest carrying pitchers in hand, demanding immediate restoration of water supply. They warned that if the issue is not resolved soon, they will launch a larger agitation.
The situation now hinges on what steps the concerned department and local authorities will take to address the crisis.
