Retired policeman killed in Diwali night collision at Kailashahar

Agartala, 21st October 2025:  A festive Diwali evening turned tragic for a family in Kailashahar when a retired police officer lost his life in a road accident involving a battery-operated auto and a scooter.

Local sources informed that Kanan Debnath, a long-serving member of the police department had stepped out on his scooter around dusk to buy vegetables as was his daily routine. While passing through the Paitur Bazar area, his scooter was struck head-on by a battery-operated auto coming from the opposite direction. The impact left him severely injured and bleeding on the road.

Kailashahar police station staff rushed to the scene and shifted Debnath to Unakoti District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. Authorities have since seized both the scooter and the auto involved in the crash. An investigation is underway, although the auto driver reportedly fled the scene.

Debnath, a respected resident of Kailashahar, was known for his dedication to the police force. His sudden demise has cast a pall of grief over his family and the local community.
