Agartala, 15th December 2025: A rickshaw puller was detained and beaten by an angry mob in the Krishnanagar area of the capital city today, following allegations that he snatched a gold chain from a child passenger.
Locals and the child’s mother claimed that the incident took place shortly after she hired a rickshaw from Post Office Chowmuhani to Krishnanagar, accompanied by her young child. Upon reaching their destination, the rickshaw puller reportedly offered to carry the child while asking the mother to take out the fare. It was during this moment, she alleged, that the man removed the gold chain from the child’s neck.
The child immediately informed his mother about the missing chain, prompting her to confront the rickshaw puller. Although he initially denied the accusation, nearby residents quickly gathered at the scene after hearing the commotion. The crowd detained the man and, despite his repeated denials, subjected him to a physical assault.
Local sources claim that under pressure from the mob, the rickshaw puller eventually confessed to stealing the chain.
