Road Blockade in Chawmanu Demanding Construction of Footbridge

Date:

Agartala, 27th August 2026 :  ‘Residents of Debendra Karbari Para under Purba Chawmanu Village on Thursday blocked the Manu–Chawmanu road at Bankumari and Mag Para in Chawmanu Assembly constituency, demanding the construction of a footbridge.

According to the protesters, approval had earlier been granted for the construction of a footbridge connecting East Chawmanu and West Chawmanu to facilitate communication between the two areas.

However, the protesters alleged that due to the intervention of the local MLA, the approved bridge was subsequently shifted to Arjunmani Karbari Para and Getuya Karbari Para.

The agitating residents said their sole demand is that the bridge should be constructed again at the originally approved location, as it is essential for connectivity between East and West Chawmanu.
