Road on National Highway 208 Turns Into a “Death Trap,” Residents Allege Administrative Negligence

Date:

Agartala, 5th July 2026: Despite repeated media coverage, authorities appear to remain unresponsive to the worsening condition of a key stretch of National Highway 208 connecting Erarpar, Manikbhandar, Lambuchhara, and Anandabazar. Locals say the road has now turned into a “death trap,” with large potholes, broken surfaces, and rainwater accumulation making daily travel extremely hazardous.

Residents have expressed frustration, alleging that although the issue has been reported multiple times in the press, no effective action has been taken by the concerned departments. This has led many to question whether news coverage is merely limited to headlines, with little impact on real-world problem solving.

The road is heavily used every day by school and college students, office commuters, ambulances, auto-rickshaws, motorcycles, and goods transport vehicles. However, each journey now reportedly involves significant risk. Vehicle damage is becoming routine due to poor road conditions, increasing repair costs, wasting travel time, and raising the likelihood of accidents.

Locals further point out that while taxes are collected and promises are made, the ground reality of road maintenance remains unchanged. The situation deteriorates further during the monsoon season, when potholes fill with water, making it impossible for drivers to judge road conditions and hidden hazards.

Residents are now demanding immediate and permanent repair of the stretch rather than verbal assurances. They warn that continued negligence could lead to serious accidents in the future, raising urgent questions about accountability if such incidents occur.
