Agartala, 6th February 2024:   As part of the month-long Road Safety Day campaign, the District Transport Department of Khoai carried out an operation to monitor and regulate the traffic situation in Khowai town on Tuesday. The operation was jointly led by Rabindra Barman, a senior official of the District Transport Department, and the Khowai Traffic Unit.

The Road Safety Day campaign, which started on 15th January and will end on 14th February, aims to raise awareness among the public about the importance of following traffic rules and avoiding road accidents. The campaign is being observed across the state, and the District Transport Department of Khowai is also taking various measures to ensure road safety in its jurisdiction.

According to Barman, the operation in Khowai town on Tuesday was one of the activities planned for the campaign. He said that the operation involved checking the documents and fitness of the vehicles, enforcing the speed limits and traffic signals, and educating the drivers and pedestrians about the road safety norms.

Barman said that the operation resulted in the seizure of several vehicles that did not have proper driving license, insurance, or registration. These vehicles were taken to the Subhash Park police outpost at Khowai for further action. He also warned the drivers of the consequences of violating the traffic rules and urged them to be responsible and cautious on the road.

Barman also addressed the issue of loud silencers that are installed in some two-wheelers, which cause noise pollution and inconvenience to the public. He said that the District Transport Department will take strict action against such vehicles and remove the silencers. He appealed to the owners of such vehicles to refrain from using them and respect the rights of other road users.

Barman said that the District Transport Department will continue to conduct similar operations in different parts of Khowai district during the Road Safety Day campaign. He said that the ultimate goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of road accidents and fatalities in the district and the state. He requested the cooperation and support of the public in achieving this goal.
