Agartala, 15th June 2025:  In a major breakthrough, Bishalgarh Police have solved a sensational robbery case involving the theft of Rs 2.5 lakh and the brutal assault of two individuals in the Gokulnagar Abhay Ashram area.

Acting swiftly, police arrested two accused and recovered a portion of the looted money along with vehicles used in the crime.

According to police sources, the incident took place on June 2 during a funeral in the Gokulnagar Abhay Ashram area, when Hafez Mia and his son Sagar Mia were attacked with sharp weapons. The assailants left them severely injured and bleeding by the roadside. Responders from the Bishalgarh Fire Department rushed the victims to the Bishalgarh Subdistrict Hospital. Later, Hafez Mia, in critical condition, was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.

Initially, a complaint was lodged by the victims’ family at Bishalgarh Police Station, claiming a theft of Rs 11.5 lakh. Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and registered a case (No. BLG 41/2025).

Late on Saturday night, police arrested two notorious robbers—Biki Majumdar, son of Mrinal Majumdar of Amtali Pandabpur, and Sagar Das, son of Anil Das of Gokulnagar—from Bhuiyanmatha, Baiyar. Police also seized a car and a scooter used in the robbery.

However, during interrogation, a startling revelation came to light—the actual amount stolen was Rs 2.5 lakh, not Rs 11.5 lakh as initially claimed. The complainant himself admitted to this at Bishalgarh Police Station.

Following the arrests, a search operation at Biki Majumdar’s residence led to the recovery of Rs 1.05 lakh in cash and two mobile phones. Both accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 126(2), 118(2), 109, 309(4), 351, 308(2), and 3(5).

At a press conference held at Bishalgarh Police Station on Sunday afternoon, Rajiv Sutradhar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sepahijala District, briefed the media on the case. Bishalgarh SDPO Dulal Dutta and Officer-in-Charge Sanjit Sen were also present.

Both officers were lauded for their relentless efforts and swift action in cracking the case and exposing the truth behind the conflicting claims. Police have intensified efforts to trace any other individuals linked to the robbery and bring them to justice.
