Agartala, 7th November 2026 : In a humanitarian initiative aimed at bringing smiles to underprivileged people suffering from congenital physical deformities and other complex medical conditions, a special free reconstructive and plastic surgery camp is scheduled to be held in Agartala in February 2027. The initiative is being undertaken by Rotaplast International, a renowned charitable organisation based in San Francisco, USA, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and Tripura Shantiniketan Medical College.
As part of the preparations for the upcoming medical mission, a high-level three-member delegation from Rotaplast International is currently visiting Agartala to inspect the facilities and infrastructure at the proposed venue. The delegation comprises Mission Assignment Director Rotarian Brian Walek, Indian-American anaesthesiologist Dr Vijay, and the organisation’s Global Ambassador, Rotarian R. Pradeep Kumar Dutta.
The delegation is examining the surgical facilities, operation theatres, anaesthesia arrangements, patient management systems and overall infrastructure of Tripura Shantiniketan Medical College to ensure that the international medical mission in February 2027 can be conducted safely and smoothly.
Expressing satisfaction and gratitude over Shantiniketan’s association with this joint initiative, eminent representative of Shantiniketan, Malay Pit, welcomed the collaboration.
The primary objective of the free surgical camp is to provide medical assistance to economically disadvantaged families, particularly children suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate conditions. The camp will also focus on reconstructive surgeries for burn victims and other complex plastic surgery procedures, helping beneficiaries regain normal lives, confidence and dignity.
It may be mentioned that, inspired by Rotary International’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self”, Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala has been actively involved in various social welfare and humanitarian initiatives for a long time.
Earlier, in collaboration with Tripura Medical College, the club implemented the ‘Drishtipath’ project, providing free eye care services and initiatives to improve physical well-being. The club has also successfully undertaken several projects focusing on mental health, drug de-addiction awareness, rural empowerment and skill development.
The organisers expressed hope that the Rotaplast International reconstructive surgery camp, scheduled for February 2027, will become a landmark initiative in the history of healthcare services in Tripura.
