Rs. 322 cr spent on janajati development in 2024-25: CM

Agartala, 15th January 2026:   Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the present state government is working tirelessly for the economic, social, and cultural development of the janajati.

He said that various projects have been announced in the state government budget for the development of the janajati.“The government is working to develop infrastructure, including roads in remote areas inhabited by the janajati, with the funds allocated by NABARD. Through this, the socio-economic status of the janajati is being improved,” he said.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said this while inaugurating the state-level Tarlak Kut 2026 festival at Darchey in Kumarghat today.He said that the state government has taken a special role in including the Darlong community in the Scheduled Tribes Community.

Dr. Saha said that the Darlongs are far ahead in education and culture. “This festival will further strengthen the unity and brotherhood among the Darlong community.”

“The traditional Tarlak Kut festival is the harvest festival of the Darlong community. Through this festival, the traditional culture and unity of the Darlong community are highlighted,” he said.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that from now on, the Tarlak Kut festival has been included in the annual calendar of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of the state government.

“The government has given maximum compensation to the janajati in the acquisition of land for the construction of roads. In addition, the government is providing financial assistance to the janajati in the TTAADC for the development of the janajati,” said Dr. Saha.

Dr. Saha said that to honour the Maharaja of Tripura, the Agartala airport has been named after Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, and a statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur has been installed at the airport and at Kaman Chowmuhoni in Agartala.

“A public holiday has been declared on August 19, on the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. Twelve tribal blocks in the state have been identified as aspirational blocks. An additional 10 percent of the budget has been allocated for tribal development in all these aspirational blocks,” he said.
