Agartala: September 19. A total of Rs 603.89 crore would be spent by the government for providing Rs 2000 as a social pension which will be received by 3, 18, 415 beneficiaries. Addressing a press conference this evening ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today said that after the BJP government formed in the state the social pension was hiked from Rs 500 to Rs 500 and beneficiaries used to get Rs 1000.
“We have also promised to increase the social pension upto Rs 2000. And as per the promise, the state government has decided to provide a pension of Rs 2000 from October 01. We have additionally increased Rs 1000”, the minister said. He further informed that under 32 schemes people are receiving pensions among these three are centrally sponsored pensions.
“A total of 3, of 18, 415 beneficiaries will receive the social pension from October 01 for which monthly additional expenditure will be Rs 31.44 crore while yearly additional expenditure will be Rs 603.89 crore. Many people have said that from where we will provide this money and many have said that these all are fake promises but we do what we did”, the minister said.He further said that in 2023-24 the state government would need Rs 761.28 crore for the social pension scheme.
