Agartala, 16th February 2025:   A devastating fire broke out in the rubber plantation of Bidur Das, husband of Kalam Khet Gram Panchayat Upa-Pradhan Jaba Rani Das Majumdar, in Urmai under Sonamura police station.

The incident, which occurred around 2 PM on Sunday, destroyed 500 fruit-bearing rubber trees, causing immense financial loss to the family.

According to reports, Bidur Das received information about the fire in his plantation and rushed to the spot, only to find his source of livelihood engulfed in flames. Local residents and relatives swiftly responded, managing to douse the fire before the arrival of the Melaghar fire brigade. Nearly a hundred people participated in extinguishing the fire, preventing further damage.

Bidur Das has alleged that the fire was an act of political vengeance, as he is actively involved in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s activities in Kalam Khet. He claimed that the attack was orchestrated to target him and his wife due to their political affiliations.

Following the incident, Bidur Das has expressed his devastation, stating that his family has lost their primary source of income. He has decided to file a complaint at the police station, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the fire, but local law enforcement is expected to conduct an inquiry. The incident has raised concerns over the growing political tensions in the region, with many calling for strict action against those responsible.
