Agartala, 30th August 2025: Rubber cultivators across Tripura are grappling with a sudden outbreak of an unidentified disease affecting plantations in multiple districts. The affliction, which causes premature leaf fall and halts latex production, has raised alarm among growers and prompted intervention from the Rubber Board.
Speaking at a press conference here today, Pabitra Kar, State Secretary of the All India Krishak Sabha, confirmed that Rubber Board officials have conducted field inspections across several affected plantations. Following consultations with plant pathologists, the disease has been identified as a fungal infection, likely triggered by excessive rainfall in recent weeks.
In response, the Joint Rubber Production Commissioner has announced the deployment of two drones from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, to assist with aerial spraying of fungicides. One drone is reportedly en route, though logistical hurdles have delayed its arrival in the state. Authorities expect both drones to reach Tripura within the next two to three days, after which targeted spraying operations will commence.
The Rubber Board continues to monitor the situation closely, with hopes that swift aerial intervention will contain the spread and restore productivity across affected plantations.
