Agartala, 27th December 2024: The Sabroom police station has successfully arrested two notorious thieves involved in the Daityeswari Maa temple theft case. The police recovered 7,000 rupees in cash and stolen gold ornaments from the temple.
The incident came to light this morning when the priest of Sabroom found the door of the Mata Daityeswari Kali temple broken. Upon inspection, it was found that various gold ornaments approximately 25 ‘bhori’, several silver ornaments and about Rs 20,000 in cash were missing. The Sabrum police station was immediately informed, and the police rushed to the scene to investigate.
Sabroom SDPO Nityananda Sarkar stated, “The Sabroom police station promptly took up the case and started an investigation. During the investigation, the names of three youths surfaced. The police conducted raids at various locations and arrested three individuals on a bike. However, one of them managed to escape.”
The arrested individuals were identified as Sajal Nama and Cheltu Tripura, while the third suspect, Jhulan Nama, is still at large. The police recovered 76.47 grams of gold ornaments and 7,000 taka in cash from the arrested individuals.
Officer Sarkar added, “A theft case had been filed against them in the past. They were released from jail a few days ago and became friends while incarcerated. After their release, they targeted the temple.”
The swift action by the Sabroom police has brought some relief to the community, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt response by law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of religious sites.
