Agartala, 3rd May 2025: Amid mounting public frustration over Tripura’s deteriorating healthcare services, the Sadar District Congress on Saturday staged a large protest rally in Agartala, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
The rally culminated in the submission of a memorandum to the Director of the Health Department.
Congress leaders accused the state government of large-scale corruption in medical examinations, an acute shortage of medical personnel, and the overall collapse of hospital infrastructure. Protesters marched through the city, alleging that repeated complaints had gone unheeded.
“The healthcare system under the BJP-led government has collapsed,” said a senior Congress leader. “Patients are dying without treatment, safety standards have vanished, and government hospitals are in shambles.”
Citing GB Hospital as an example, he said conditions have become dangerous for patients, with infections spreading within hospital premises and even structural hazards—“A ceiling fan recently fell on a patient,” he added.
The leader also flagged a critical shortfall of doctors and nurses. “Hospitals are running with skeletal staff, putting lives at risk every day,” he said.
The Sadar District Congress warned of intensified agitation if the government fails to urgently revamp the health sector and ensure accountability from those at the helm.
